Artist galleries in Taos range from traditional to contemporary, ceramics, painting and sculpture. There are boutiques selling one-of-a-kind fashions and furniture. Explore these spots just a short distance for Palacio de Marquesa.
At Taos Pueblo, visitors can see Native American craftsman at work, just as they have been for hundreds of years. Throughout the ground floor of the multi-level pueblo are shops selling pottery, jewelry, hand-woven rugs and other Native American crafts.
Taos Plaza is an excellent place to pick up a souvenir of your trip, a tee-shirt, some tasty treats as well as Native American jewelry and crafts.
Bent Street, just a few blocks from the plaza, is home to some of the southwest’s most distinctive contemporary galleries and boutiques.
Between Bent Street and the plaza are the John Dunn House Shops. These 20 unique, independently and locally owned shops and eateries handmade leather goods, uncommon fabrics, books, kitchen supplies, fossils and minerals, antique maps and manuscripts, New Mexico arts and crafts, beautiful comfortable shoes and boots, Mexican folk art, jewelry, fine yarns and fiber crafts, and contemporary and southwestern fashions for men and women. Two galleries feature the arts and crafts of local artisans.
Another Taos shopping district is Ledoux Street, with its galleries, murals and sculpture gardens. It’s just a short walk from the plaza.
Head south on NM 522 about 4 miles to the the historic and charming community of Rancho de Taos. At its heart is St. Francis Plaza, with its galleries, crafts purveyors and restaurants.
